CORE RESEARCH CAPABILITIES AND EXPERTISE

Current NARB research focuses primarily on coastal river ecology with an emphasis on conservation of endangered species, restoration of habitat for diadromous species, and ecological function of native aquatic communities. Target systems are national parks within the Delaware River basin and the Susquehanna River portion of the Chesapeake Bay drainage. Work is concentrated within four integrated research areas:

1. Ecological Flows (Personnel, Products)

2. Landscape Ecology (Personnel, Products)

3. Environmental Chemistry (Personnel, Products)

  • Phytoplankton dynamics of coastal rivers and estuaries
  • Indicators of ecosystem integrity in lotic systems
  • Essential nutrients/vitamins, fatty acids

4. Ecosystem Function (Personnel, Products)
