Infectious Dropsy And Spring Viremia Of Carp:
History Department for Biology and Pathology of Fish and Bees, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; University of Zagreb, Heinzelova 55, POB 190,10000 Zagreb, Croatia Reviews
on Spring Viremia of Carp (SVC) by Fijan (1999) and by Ahne et al.
(2002) as well as the meeting in Atlanta (December 2002) covered the facts
about this disease, which was known as Infectious Dropsy of Carp (IDC) until
1971. Although Schäperclaus in 1930, pointed out the long existence of IDC in
Europe, the literature from the past century has thus far not been critically
analyzed for “footprints” of SVC. Selected information from European literature
was divided into three periods: (a) early research roaming; (b) opening,
filling up and struggles within the IDC bag; and (c) lesser known and
unpublished data after the suggestion to dismantle the IDC bag. This
presentation will discuss IDC synonyms, arguments about etiology, past
epizootiological patterns of IDC and SVC, as well as some lesser-known and
unpublished data. Return to 28th Annual Eastern Fish Health WorkshopReturn to Leetown Science Center Home Page |
