Low
Stress Acclimation For Freshly Caught Caribbean Fish Used In Public DisplayCory S. Walter and Forrest A. Young Dynasty Marine Associates, 10602 7th
Ave. Gulf, Marathon, FL 33050 Public aquariums
have dramatically increased over the past 10 years due to elevated interest in
the marine environment. Furthermore, so
has the need to fillthese aquariums with marine organisms. There are many different techniques in the
collection process, but all are tough on the organism, especially fish, and so
there must be a low stress acclimation process. Since natural water quality is decreasing, diseases in the fish
are appearing more rapidly and any additional stress can commence disease. By
keeping water parameters similar to their natural environment,
administering prophylactics and antibiotics periodically, and having a regular
feeding schedule, fish can be acclimated to captivity with higher success.
